El Sesenta : Shinjoo Cho (Korea/United States) and Alejo de los Reyes met in Buenos Aires in 2014, where Shinjoo was residing, and playing with various tango groups. Among them was the orchestra “La Hannibal,” where Patricia Astarita, Alejo’s mother, also played bandoneon.

Although they saw each other frequently in Buenos Aires, they officially started playing together in 2017 in Philadelphia, when Shinjoo invited Alejo to travel to the United States. Once the duo formed, they had several performances in 2017 and 2018.

The duo has resumed activity with Alejo’s move to New York, and performs regularly in Philadelphia and New York venues.

Slowey and the Boats have been a mainstay in Philadelphia’s music scene for over 10 years now. They perform an eclectic mix of Hawaiian, lounge, and exotica and have released three full length albums on the Hi-Tide Recordings label. The band has a long-running and much-loved residency at  Dawson Street Pub in Philadelphia where they host a monthly BBQ.
