ASAP - A new trio consisting of Bryan Rogers - tenor saxophone, Pete Angevine - percussion and Matt Engle on Bass. This is a new extension of Special What (Pete & Bryan) formed in 2006, dormant for approximately 14 years, then re-emerged in 2023 with a reinforced clarity of vision and intent and now infused with the genius of Matt Engle on bass. About Matt- local tall spirit weaving layers of impressionist electronics with sweeping lyrics on upright bass. Matt brings a sweet quiet power on the bass, tangled with deeply focused bristles of classical and disassembled jazz. He's a powerful sound solo, and a frequent ace collaborator - this show is going to be a mighty expo. Pete, Bryan and Matt are each a blessing to the Philadelphia music community and the nation - stepping into new terrain - relentless but never forced). This trio borrows traits from such musical traditions as American minimalism, global folk, and Free Jazz, Special What uses a little to make a lot. They play partially composed, partially improvised music that might stick around in a Listening Ear longer than expected.
